Fasting Exercises are a great tool in purity and cleansing approaches. For me the positive physical aspects (stabiization of blood sugar, metabolic reset, maybe weight loss) play a secondary role. For me fasting is a great way of creating or re-establishing mindfullness on many levels far beyond nutrition. It is also self empowering to go through a self chose phase of abstinence especially when coming out of a phase when we unconsciously follow unhealthy food patterns and other addictions. A successful fasting exercise can teach us that it is possible to take control, get rid of unconscious habbits, and be strong and responsible for our body and our soul. After fasting you may experience unknown inner peace and a feeling of universal unity. In my personal experience fasting makes me more gentle, forgiving, patient and grateful for simple things. The much greater appreciation even for simple foods like plain bread that tastes wondefull after a fasting exercise expands into appreciation of all things we are given and allowed to experience, our home, our friends, the nature around us. The post fasting mindset makes it much easier to keep away from, or moderatly use, drugs like coffee and alcohol. It feels rewarding to stay with the newly regained healthy mindset after fasting.
